A personal account of the watchtowers
From Conjurer esoteric wiki
My own personal account of the watchtowers begin with the 19 day ritual, given to John Dee by the entity Ave. I will not detail the ritual here, but will say that it had the desired effect.

The first vision
After the completion of the ritual I sat down and relaxed; allowing the visions to come to me, and readily they did.
I found myself in a beautiful place, I was standing dead center in what looked like a courtyard; surrounding me were four benches, looking like polished marble or some sort of gray stone. They formed a perfect circle and the space between them was perfectly aligned with the four corners of the world. Beyond these I saw what at first appeared to be a second row of benches, but turned out to be a decoration of some kind, they consisted of two silver bars set in the ground, and they were in turn connected by a horizontal bar at the top.
The ground looked like stone, but was highly polished and perfectly smooth. From the center of the yard, I could see four paths stretching out toward the corners of the world; each ending by the steps before a huge tower far away. Suddenly the yard seemed to shrink and the towers came rushing towards me. The stopped moving and I found myself quite close to all four towers and I could clearly make out three steps in front of each tower.
Suddenly, I saw fire coming out of the lowest step and it burned letters into it, then a second flame appeared on the step above it and finally a third flame appeared on the front of the top step and burned letters into it. The fire vanished and I could see the letters glowing on each step. The lowest step had three letters on it, it read: ORO. The second step had four letters on it, it read: IBAH, and the final step spelled out the name: AOZPI. A huge voice sounded and said: These are the keys of admittance. A great trumpet sounded and the doors of all four towers sprung open and multiple beings came forth. They seemed to gather in the center and I was told that the vision was at its end.
The second vision
After resting for a while another vision sprung into my mind, and I was returned to the courtyard. I saw each tower labeled with Hebrew letters; expressing the secret name YHVH, starting with the letter Yod in the east and running clock-wise. The steps were also labeled with Hebrew letters; the lowest was labeled with an Aleph, the middle one with a Mem, and the final one with a Shin. The vision ended.
The third vision
During meditation I heard a voice in my head, repeating the letters: I, A, O. I was suddenly pulled back into the courtyard and and I heard a voice reading the first Enochian key, and then the vision ended.
The fourth vision
After studying the first key I received yet another vision. I found myself back at the courtyard, standing directly in front of the steps leading into the eastern tower. I could see the Enochian banners on the steps, combined with Hebrew letters and then I split into two and I watched myself go up the stairs. As I went up I heard a voice saying: Med and under my feet I could see an Enochian letter glowing. As I climbed the second step I heard the voice again, saying: Gon and a letter appeared on that step as well. As I climbed the final step, I heard the voice saying: Un and a third letter appeared. Now the vision fades.
The INRI formula
One thing that may be concluded from these visions and the work in general, is that there certainly exists a formula in these watchtowers. Looking at the results I got, I would definitely say that the formula is alchemical.
The reference to the formula IAO is nothing short of an incomplete reference to the INRI formula, expressed only in three steps. During meditation after the completion of the ritual, I saw these letters again, along with images and concepts:
- Shin – Fire.
- Mem – Water.
- Aleph – Air.
- A lightning piercing water, setting it on fire and releasing air from it.
- The inner fire of man heating the emotions to set the mind free.
- A black stone heated by fire and the release of its blood.
The INRI formula according to Ave
According to Ave, the INRI formula is a part of the watchtowers, further fueling this theory. The kerubic angels above the lesser crosses of each watchtower, are said to be an expression of this formula, which has also been reported by several other magicians, including Dean Hildebrandt and Ben Rowe.
