Background

The corpus omnium

On the morning of April the 10th 1584, the entity Nalvage delivered what has been called the table of God, the table of Nalvage or the Corpus omnium - the body of all. Nalvage himself provides valuable clues as to what this table is, but also as to the nature of God as represented here with us or how we are to view God:

Omnium, is the thing that is my charge.
Lo, it is divided into 4 parts: whereof two are dignified: one not yet dignified, but shall be: the other without glory or dignification.
Understand God, as the substance of the whole, (as above said.)

According to what Nalvage says in the quote above, God is to be understood or interpreted as the substance of the table of God, but also as the sum of four parts, which is not the common view of God. In Christianity, God is seen as the sum of three parts - the Father, the Son and the Holy ghost. In this case we might instead turn to kabbalah to get a the four-fold division we need. In kabbalah, there are four countenances projected through the tree of life - the Father, the Mother, the Son and the Daughter. Naturally, anything could be used to symbolize these four parts as long as all four parts can be reconciled into a unity.

The importance of the number four

The number four is usually considered a significant number in magic traditions; owing its importance to several factors. Most western magicians would consider it a number closely related to the elemental forces of nature, with extensive attributions to planetary, zodiacal and sephirotic forces. Some students might even recognize other virtues in the number four, for example the Pythagorean double virtue (1+1=2, 2+2=4), while others still might recognize its highly sephirotic nature (1+2+3+4=10). Whatever the tradition, the number four is a common number known to most if not all traditions and Enochian magic is no exception.

The number four is certainly prominent even in this tradition, we have for instance the four watchtowers; corresponding to the four corners of the world, the four names of the black cross, the four parts of the tablet of God or the four pillars of our solar system. This list could be made extensive, but I sure that the reader can grasp the importance of this number, by the few examples I have laid down above.

A vision

This vision took place during a meditation a couple of weeks after my 19-day ritual. During this meditation I was contemplating the nature of the cross and the number four. The nature of the cross was a thought originally suggested to me by Patricia Shaffer and during some of our conversations I became aware of the instability of having a single cross. The process was gradual but I came to the conclusion that a second cross was needed to really fit Enochian magic; the problem was how to visualize it and perform it in ritual.
The solution to this enigma became the six-armed cross, which extends in all six directions (up, down, front, back, left, right). At first I was displeased with this solution, since it felt akward and strange, but during follow-up meditations I was instructed to look more closely at the central cross of a watchtower. Upon inspection it became clear that I was on to something.
Each of the crosses have one horizontal arm and two vertical arms, but no explanation was ever given as to why there were two vertical arms on the central crosses. As I looked upon the watchtower I suddenly fell into vision and I saw the watchtower before me in 2D. Suddenly the watchtower extended into three dimensions and as it did, I saw the "linea filii" rotate back into the 3D-shape to form the last bar of the six-armed cross. Now hovering in front of me was a cube instead of a 2D shape. I was filled by the cube and suddenly I saw my guardian angel appearing before me, performing the ritual of the cross, which is outlined below.

The cross

Preperation

  • Face east.
  • Close your eyes and relax.
  • Visualize how your body expands up and grows to encompass the whole universe.
  • Visualize a bright light above your head.

The ritual

  • Clasp your hands in front of your chest, fingers up.
  • Move your clasped hands up in front of you and let them penetrate the orb of light above your head.
  • Exclaim: "In nomine Patris".
  • Move your hands down again and invert fingers as you pass the chest and continue until you reach the groin.
  • Visualize how the light is being drawn down through your body until you become a pillar of light.
  • Exclaim: "et Filii".
  • Move your hands up again. Invert fingers and stop as you get to the chest. Now thrust your hands towards the north and south quarters to form a cross.
  • Visualize how the light shoots out into your arms so that you turn into a cross of pure light.
  • Exclaim: "et Matri".
  • Move your hands back in and place the right one on top of the left in the form of an "X" on your chest.
  • Visualize an elemental cross in your chest (like the logo of this site) of light.
  • Exclaim: "et Filiae".
